About the Role
The National Gallery of Australia is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team and deliver exceptional catering for bespoke events. You will work alongside a collaborative group of hospitality professionals to execute high-profile functions for senior stakeholders and visitors.

Onsite, we also manage Kitchen by Mike (KBM) café, providing a dynamic environment to showcase your skills. As part of our team, you’ll gain exposure to a diverse range of food concepts, work at scale, and benefit from outstanding resources and professional development opportunities.

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a qualified chef in high-quality hospitality settings
  • Proven track record in event catering, banqueting, café or restaurant operations
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop kitchen teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building abilities
  • A passion for culinary innovation and contemporary food trends
  • Food Safety Supervisor certification (or ability to operate as one)
  • Experience delivering an upmarket café food offer

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day food production and ensure every dish meets our exacting standards
  • Prepare a broad range of contemporary cuisines and service styles—buffets, formal dinners, cocktail receptions
  • Recruit, induct and train kitchen staff; assist with rostering and performance management
  • Manage stock ordering, control and replenishment to minimise waste and maximise efficiency
  • Lead daily briefings with the team on menu details, service standards and safe-work procedures
  • Maintain full compliance with all Food Safety and Trippas White Group policies

Essential Qualifications

  • Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
  • Current Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Current AFP Police Check
