About the Role:
The Return to Work Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing workplace injury management and return-to-work processes to support employees recovering from work-related and non-work-related injuries or illnesses. The role ensures compliance with relevant workers compensation legislation, promotes early intervention, and works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve safe, timely, and sustainable return-to-work outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Injury Management & Early Intervention
- Receive notification of injuries and initiate early intervention measures.
- Conduct initial needs assessments and develop tailored return-to-work strategies.
- Maintain regular communication with injured employees to support recovery and wellbeing.
2. Return to Work Planning
- Develop, implement and monitor individual Return to Work Plans (RTWPs) aligned with medical advice and workplace capabilities.
- Liaise with treating practitioners, rehabilitation providers and insurers to coordinate suitable duties and workplace adjustments.
- Review RTWPs regularly to ensure progress is on track and adjust plans as required.
3. Legislative Compliance
- Ensure all processes meet relevant state-based workers compensation and WHS legislative requirements.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, documentation and reporting in line with regulatory standards.
- Submit required documentation to insurers and regulatory bodies within required timeframes.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with managers, supervisors, HR, WHS and payroll to support RTW initiatives.
- Educate and guide leaders on their responsibilities in supporting injured employees.
- Build strong relationships with insurers, rehabilitation providers and medical professionals.
5. Reporting & Data Management
- Monitor trends, report on claims, costs, RTW outcomes and timeframes.
- Provide regular reporting to senior management on performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain case management systems and ensure data accuracy.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to streamline injury management processes and improve RTW outcomes.
- Contribute to policy development, training materials and awareness programs.
- Support the organisation in creating a positive safety culture emphasising early reporting and proactive management.
About You:
- Strong knowledge of workers compensation and injury management legislation in each State.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- High level of empathy, professionalism, and discretion when working with sensitive information.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases concurrently.
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively across teams.
